2-Night Art Retreat: Art as Prayer – Making Holy Reminders

March 19, 2021 @ 6:00 pm - March 21, 2021 @ 12:00 pm

Art as Prayer

This retreat has now reached capacity. Please call the office at 404 255 0503 if you wish to be placed on a wait list in the event of a cancellation. Thank you for your understanding.

Directed by Terresa Ford, MFA

Art as Prayer is a 2-night silent retreat that explores the use of our God given imagination to create “Holy Reminders.” Holy Reminders are images and icons familiar to our Catholic sensibilities that bring us in the presence of our Lord Jesus. These Holy Reminders capture the love affair between Christ and His people and bring individuals back to the peace that only Jesus provides in times of trial.  Retreatants will have an opportunity to create one or two personal Holy Reminders to take home (made of wood and acrylic paint), will engage in painting as prayer, and will explore their talent & interest in acrylic painting on wood. All materials will be provided.  A Catholic Mass will be offered for those interested, and Reconciliation will also be available. Space is limited to 10 participants.

This is a silent retreat. Guests are expected to maintain a sacred silence throughout the retreat, including at meals, unless otherwise noted.

Teresa Ford, MFA, a native of Buffalo, New York, has been painting for forty years. She holds a Master in Fine Arts – Fine Art/Painting from the Maryland Institute College of Art and a Bachelor of Fine Arts – Fine Art/Painting from the State University of New York at Brockport. She paints as a form of prayer invoking iconic images, black gospel music and traditional spoken prayer to create vibrant “holy reminders” that offer solace and comfort in times of tribulation. She is a graduate intern through the Office of Contextual Education at the Candler School of Theology at Emory University and is a second-year Master of Divinity candidate, concentrating in Catholic Studies and Chaplaincy. Terresa recently completed a year-long chaplaincy internship at Lee Arrendale State Prison and a unit of Clinical Pastoral Education at Grady Memorial Hospital.
