Enrichment Program: What is God’s Will? – A Workshop on Ignatian Discernment (POSTPONED)
March 18 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
An event every week that begins at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, repeating until March 25, 2020
POSTPONED. Your instructor will contact you about the possibility of a virtual meeting.
Facilitated by Andy Otto, MA
This program, a workshop on Ignatian Discernment, runs for three weeks on Wednesday evenings from March 11 through March 25, 2020, 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm. It will be important to attend all three sessions otherwise you will lose important continuity in the workshop content. Please purchase the book What’s Your Decision? from Loyola Press ahead of the first session. We will be using this as a guide.
The most difficult decisions are not choosing between good and evil, but discerning between good choices! This workshop will lay out all the tools of Ignatian discernment and invite participants to bring their own decision-making “case studies” for the group to grapple with. We will study Ignatius’ foundation for all life decisions, examine his famous Rules for the Discernment of Spirits, and explore various methods of bringing our decisions to prayer. Participants will come out of this workshop equipped with tools to discern future decisions more confidently.
Andy Otto is on the Pastoral Team at Ignatius House and also works in Adult Faith Formation at St Thomas More Church in Decatur, GA, a Jesuit parish. He holds an M.A. in Theology and Ministry from Boston College. Originally from Boston, Andy spent nearly three years as a Jesuit studying for the priesthood, which helped form his love for Ignatian spirituality. During that time he taught primary school students in Syracuse, NY and Kingston, Jamaica, worked at a palliative care cancer hospital in the Bronx, and was a chaplain at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC. He is the creator of GodInAllThings.com, and is the author of God Moments: Unexpected Encounters in the Ordinary. Andy enjoys helping people discover the wisdom of discernment in the Ignatian tradition.
