Interfaith Evening Program: The Poetics of Mystical Union

May 22 @ 5:30 pm - 9:00 pm

$50

Guest Speaker: Br. Minlib Dallh, OP

What do the mystics of Christianity, Islam, and Hinduism have in common? Explore their passionate love for the Divine and their inspirational poetry in an evening seminar at Ignatius House led by Dominican friar, Br. Minlib Dallh, OP.  Br. Dallh will lead discussions on the themes of desire, longing and passion represented in poetry as courtly love, bridal imagery and marital symbolism. These themes permeated the writings of the mystics Beguine Mechtild (Christian), Aishah (Islam) and Mirabai (Hinduism).

A light dinner will be offered at 5.30pm, along with friendship and conversation across the dinner table, followed by the evening program from 6.30pm. There will be an opportunity for Q&A and dialogue throughout the evening.

Minlib Dallh, OP is a is a Dominican friar and a visiting scholar at Emory University’s Candler School of Theology.  His research focuses on comparative mysticism in Islam and Christianity, with a special interest in love-mysticism.

The cost to Ignatius House to present this evening’s event is $50, which is a suggested contribution. Contributions of any amount are welcome and will support the Fr. Niel Jarreau, SJ, Fund to provide spiritual programming at Ignatius House for those in hardship of any faith tradition.
