Introduction to Centering Prayer Workshop
March 1 @ 8:30 am - 4:00 pm$60
Directed by Maggie Winfrey
Centering Prayer is a simple method of prayer, rooted in ancient Christian tradition. “… not so much the absence of thoughts as the detachment from them. It is the opening of mind and heart, body and emotions – the whole body – to God …beyond words, thoughts, and emotions.” by Thomas Keating in Open Mind, Open Heart.
Contemplative Outreach of Atlanta offers this Introduction to Centering Prayer Workshop at Ignatius House on Sunday, March 1, 2020, from 8:30 am – 4:00 pm.
(Six follow-up workshops beginning Tuesday, March 3 from 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm at Ignatius House will continue the series, and will introduce participants to the four simple steps of Centering Prayer and provide opportunities to practice the discipline in daily life. If you have any additional questions, please contact Maggie Winfrey at email@example.com.)
After coming to Atlanta from her birthplace, the Panama Canal Zone, Maggie Winfrey led a three-decade career teaching kids to read and later, to speak English. In college in the States and at the start of her teaching career, she became interested in spiritual development, leading to four decades of spiritual directorship, teaching adult spiritual enrichment, and promoting contemplative prayer as a spiritual discipline. Her current activities include leading the Atlanta chapters of Contemplative Outreach as well as her own contemplative prayer group, now entering its thirteenth year. She is especially interested in the life and work of Thomas Merton.
Gathering time is 8:30 am – 9:00 am in the Resource Building (on the left hand side of the courtyard) with a continental breakfast served before the program begins. The first presentation is at 9:00 am in the Resource Building, and the day ends at 4:00 pm. A delicious and healthy meal will be served mid-way through your day in the dining room.
** Please note that a silent retreat is still in progress when you arrive on Sunday morning, so we would appreciate everyone observing and respecting the silent atmosphere for others on arrival, both in the parking lot and on approach to the Resource Building on the left hand side of the courtyard, where breakfast will be served. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!
