Creating a Prayer Space
Making a retreat or day of reflection from home is very different than coming to a retreat house. As a way to retreat from your “normal”, we encourage you to prepare a sacred space to watch the talks and to pray.
Find a space where you can be comfortable and attentive. You may wish to sit at a designated table or desk, free of distraction, and perhaps light a candle as a sign that you are entering into a prayerful mode with God. Some may wish to place a cross or other sacred object on the table. This is different from a meeting or watching TV. Before each session spend a few moments in quiet as a way to center yourself, reminding yourself that you will be joining other retreatants who are also seeking intentional time with God.
In Between Sessions
The time between live sessions are your time with God, too. At the retreat house, after the talks in the chapel, many will find a place to pray. Where can you pray at home? You may choose to find a prayer corner inside or choose to sit outside. Some like to pray with instrumental music and some prefer silence. Have your Bible handy. Journaling also can be helpful as a way to relish your time with God. The retreat director’s handouts and suggestions will help your prayer time.
Videos and Handouts
You should be emailed any retreat handouts along with your Zoom link. Again, please check your spam if you do not see this email 12 hours before the first retreat talk (it will be coming from Sue Chase at firstname.lastname@example.org). After your retreat you will receive a follow-up email with a link to the video recordings of each talk and an evaluation form.
We look forward to “seeing” you soon!
