Weekend Ignatian Lenten Retreat

Lent can serve as a rich time of preparation for Easter’s glory. It is filled with desert experiences, wisdom teachings, and heartfelt farewells. These dry, wise, and passionate times are reflected in our lives, and not limited only to Lent. Join us as we journey with Jesus and his earliest followers through the passion, death, and resurrection that define all our experiences of death and new life, joy and grief, hope and despair, love and loss. We will dip into the deep well of Ignatian spirituality that invites us into a life-giving relationship with God and neighbor through prayer and contemplation.

You’ll be presented with suggestions to help you silently and prayerfully discern big or small stirrings in your heart as someone who wants to grow closer to your creator. The retreat includes guided presentations and plenty of personal time for reflection and rest.

This is a silent retreat. Guests will be supported in keeping a sacred silence throughout the weekend, including at meals.

About Fr. Bill Noe, SJ and Andy Otto, MA

Rev. William A. Noe, SJ, the youngest of eight brothers, is a native of Racine, WI. Before entering the Society of Jesus in 2003, Fr. Bill lived in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area for several years, where he worked as an electrical engineer. Fr. Bill has enjoyed long associations with St. Anselm’s Abbey, a Benedictine monastery, and Bethlehem House, a community formed for people with an intellectual disability – both in Washington D.C. During his formation, Fr. Bill was trained in catechesis, comparative theology, and interreligious dialogue. Fr. Bill began his ministry of spiritual direction at St. Ignatius Retreat House in Manhasset, NY, in 2005 and has served as a spiritual director in New York, Chicago, Bolivia, and the United Kingdom. From 2015 to 2019, Fr. Bill served as Director of Ignatian Spirituality at Loyola on the Potomac, a Jesuit retreat house in Faulkner, MD. Fr. Bill also works as a psychotherapist in a nonprofit community mental health counseling center.

Andy Otto, M.A., serves as Director of Guest Experience at Ignatius House, where he is also a retreat director and spiritual director. Previously, he served as Director of Adult Faith Formation at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, a Jesuit parish in Decatur, Georgia. Originally from Boston, Andy holds a master’s degree in Theology and Ministry from Boston College. He spent nearly three years in Jesuit formation, an experience that deepened his love for Ignatian spirituality. During that time, he taught elementary school students in Syracuse, New York, and Kingston, Jamaica; worked at a palliative care cancer hospital in the Bronx; and served as a chaplain at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C. Andy is the creator of GodInAllThings.com and author of God Moments: Unexpected Encounters in the Ordinary. He is passionate about helping others discover the wisdom of discernment through the Ignatian tradition.
