Ignatian Spirituality: Seeking God in All Things
A Life Changed. A World Transformed.
The Journey of St. Ignatius of Loyola
St. Ignatius of Loyola began life chasing dreams of honor and fame as a soldier in 16th-century Spain. After a battlefield injury in 1521 left him bedridden, he found himself reading stories of Christ and the saints. Their lives of courage, sacrifice, and deep love for God stirred something new within him — a different kind of heroism.
This experience transformed Ignatius’ life and led him to create the Spiritual Exercises — a powerful set of prayers, meditations, and practices that help individuals hear God's voice in their everyday experiences.
The Society of Jesus: Jesuits
Ignatius’ vision grew into the founding of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) in 1540. Today, Jesuits serve in more than 100 countries, known for their leadership in education, retreat ministry, spiritual direction, and social justice. Their mission: to help others find God in all things and to build a more just and compassionate world.
Ignatius House Jesuit Retreat Center, established in 1960, proudly carries this mission forward, offering retreats, spiritual formation, and sacred space for seekers from all walks of life.
Seeking God in All Things
At the heart of Ignatian spirituality is the belief that God is active in every moment — not just in churches or special rituals, but in the ordinary flow of daily life.
Through practices like prayer, reflection, discernment, and service, Ignatian spirituality helps us awaken to God's presence, respond with greater freedom, and live a life rooted in love, justice, and hope.
The Spiritual Exercises
The Spiritual Exercises remain the cornerstone of Ignatian spirituality. Designed as a journey of prayer, contemplation, and discernment, they lead participants through themes of creation, sin, forgiveness, and resurrection.
At Ignatius House, the Spiritual Exercises form the foundation of our silent retreats, offering a sacred invitation to encounter God more deeply and to align our lives with God’s loving desire for us and the world.
